Davi Lancett has joined Daphne Press as commissioning editor, moving from Titan Books.

Lancett is the first appointment in Daphne Press’ editorial team as the press seeks to acquire new voices in SFF. Lancett will report to managing director Daphne Tonge. He will grow the commercial list, seeking diverse and talented voices as well as bringing established authors to the UK market.

As editor at Titan Books, Lancett acquired a range of science fiction and fantasy titles, including A Magic Steeped in Poison by Judy I Lin, A Light Most Hateful by Hailey Piper, The Strange by Nathan Ballingrud and Talonsister by Jen Williams. He was previously a desk editor at Impress Books.

He said: “I am so thrilled to join the team at Daphne Press. Their love of books is clear in everything they do, and their dedication to make stunning editions of some of the most interesting and exacting genre titles is second to none. As commissioning editor, I can’t wait to acquire more remarkable and diverse fiction from the brightest of voices in fantasy and sci-fi. There is an unbelievable amount of great books being written at the moment and being able to shine a spotlight on these is a privilege.

“It’s been a real pleasure working with the incredible team at Titan. Having the opportunity to help grow their list into one of the best indie offerings in the UK has been a highlight of my career.”

Tonge added: “When growing Daphne Press, it was important for us to find someone with a passion for discovering new voices and an extensive history of commissioning excellent science fiction and fantasy titles. Davi has certainly done that at Titan, and we can’t wait for him to bring his commercial expertise to shape our list.”

The appointment comes as Daphne Press celebrates the release of its first two titles, The Luminaries by Susan Dennard and The Art of Prophecy by Wesley Chu. Davi can be contacted at davi@daphnepress.com.
